Paula Bowman
Executive Director

Paula Bowman joined HEAD in 2002. She is responsible to HEAD’s Board for the financial health and program success of the organization. She oversees all of HEAD programmatic activity and the budgeting, accounting, investment, and lending operations.

Prior experience includes more than 20 years in community development. She has held positions as CFO, Director of Business Strategy and President of a multi-million dollar non-profit corporation.

Marcus Bordelon
Loan Officer

Marcus Bordelon has served both HEAD and AFCU since 1990. Prior experience includes more than 30 years of financial and lending experience. He began his career with the Moreauville State Bank in their management trainee program in 1973. In 1975, he became Branch manager of People’s State Bank, responsible for consumer lending. In 1977, he become CEO/Ex. V.P. of Sicily Island State Bank responsible for approving and making all agricultural commercial and mortgage loans.

He joined HEAD as CEO/President of the Appalachian Federal Credit Union (AFCU), responsible for administrative and operational management of the credit union. In addition, he assumed responsibility for all commercial and mortgage lending for both HEAD and AFCU. Since 1990, he has overseen the lending of over $25 million from the portfolios of HEAD and the AFCU and has directed the credit union growth from assets of $2 million to $13 million.

Jay Thesing
Chief Financial Officer

Jay Thesing began his career with HEAD in 1992. He is responsible for all budgeting and accounting duties for HEAD and the AFCU. He prepares all financial reports to funding sources, quarterly and end-of-year financial statements, and works closely with the auditors during the end-of-year audit and throughout the year. He is responsible for all of HEAD’s accounting through a fully computerized fund accounting system.

He has a B.S. in business administration and an M.B.A from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio and a Master of Divinity Degree from Christ the King Seminary in New York. He is a C.P.A. with over 18 years of varied audit and tax accounting experience, including seven years with Haskins & Sells, CPAs. He also has experience with financial, stock exchange and SEC reporting.
