The Region Served

HEAD’s geographical region encompasses the 86 counties in central Appalachia. This area is made up of predominantly rural counties in eastern Kentucky, northeast Tennessee, southwest Virginia and southern West Virginia.

Initially, the fund concentrates its efforts in the 54 Appalachian counties of eastern Kentucky (as defined by the Appalachian Regional Commission). Development opportunities throughout the entire service area are considered as the fund’s capital base increases and technical capacities expand. The yellow counties below contain a HEAD investment.
